Caniço

Coastal Charm and Marine Beauty

Caniço is one of Madeira's most popular tourist areas, situated on the south-east coast just minutes from Funchal. It offers a perfect blend of a traditional village (Caniço Village) and a modern seaside resort (Caniço de Baixo), known for its excellent hotels and underwater nature reserve.

The Cristo Rei Statue

Perched on a cliff at Garajau, the Cristo Rei statue is one of Caniço's most iconic landmarks. Established in 1927, the statue overlooks the Atlantic and offers spectacular views. A cable car nearby takes visitors down to the Garajau beach and its protected marine reserve.

How to Get to Caniço by Bus

Caniço is exceptionally well-connected to Funchal. While many EACL routes serve the area, Route 555 is a frequent and convenient circular service that covers the main tourist spots.
